Apply for project funding

In the Bürgerstiftung Jena Saale-Holzland, committed citizens of the Jena and Saale-Holzland region have joined together to form a community foundation.
Our goal is to encourage people to actively participate and share responsibility in societal and social processes, to inspire them to volunteer and to encourage and support them in their personal commitment to democracy and equal opportunities.

We award a maximum of 3000 euros per year; individual projects can apply for up to 500 euros.

Which projects are funded?

The Bürgerstiftung Jena supports projects of non-profit associations, institutions, companies and initiatives in the Jena - Saale-Holzland area that correspond to our statutory purposes.

These are the promotion of:

  • Youth and old people's welfare
  • environmental protection and nature conservation
  • education and upbringing
  • art and culture
  • and other charitable purposes

Individuals are not eligible for funding, but may submit project ideas that can be realised together with an eligible organisation.

Which projects are not funded?

As a rule, the following are excluded from support by the Bürgerstiftung Jena Saale-Holzland:

  • Individuals and associations/initiatives that are not non-profit-making (proof by current notice of exemption).
  • Projects outside the Jena - Saale-Holzland region

How is the promotion carried out

After receipt of the written application, the application is checked for completeness and basic fulfilment of the funding criteria. The Executive Board then decides whether the project will be funded and, if so, to what amount. Please allow for a corresponding lead time for the processing of the application. Board meetings are usually held once a month. Applications must be submitted at least one week before the meeting in order to be considered at the meeting.

The decision will be communicated to the applicant immediately.

If the application is approved, the applicant will receive a proof of use together with the funding approval, which must be completed and submitted to the Bürgerstiftung Jena Saale-Holzland by the end of the calendar year.

The funding amount will be transferred as a one-time payment to the account specified in the application. Longer-term funding is not possible.

The Bürgerstiftung Jena Saale-Holzland as a sponsor of external projects: In individual cases, the Bürgerstiftung Jena Saale-Holzland takes over the sponsorship of projects of external initiatives. In this case, the same criteria and procedures apply as for project funding. Due to the increased workload involved, Bürgerstiftung Jena Saale-Holzland charges an administrative fee of 10% of the total project costs.
